The woman, who plans to clear her debts with her lottery winnings, was worried about rampant crime and so she decided to don the unusual headwear as a means of keeping her identity under wraps.

In response to the bizarre move, Simone Clarke-Cooper, the lottery organiser's assistant vice-president of group corporate communications, told The Jamaica Star newspaper: ''In other markets, they don't necessarily do it, but here I think they opt to do it to keep themselves safe.

''We are not going to tell them not to do that because their safety is of paramount importance to us as well.''
