A wandering cat has caused a huge power outage in New Orleans after walking int a substation.
Utility officials in the city revealed 7,556 people were left without power when the animal found its way into the establishment and caused a flash by touching the equipment.
Entergy New Orleans said that the protective devices installed at its substations mean it is very unusual for a cast to manage to get inside.
In a statement on Twitter, it explained: ''A cat got into a substation that feeds parts of Uptown, Central City, Mid-City, and the CBD, and caused a flash when it came into contact with our equipment.
''Crews are safely working to make equipment repairs and restore power to all as quickly as possible.''
The company sadly tweeted: ''When this happens, the animals, unfortunately, do not survive the high-voltage contact.''
