Follow these top five tips from Jenny Ashton Smith, Wedding Coordinator at Cripps Barn’s newest venue, The Tithe Barn, Bolton Abbey and embrace the colder days and darker nights to create a stunning, inviting and snug wedding setting.

Light the way:

“Use a mix of lighting; candelabras and fairy lights add a warm glow to your ceremony room; carefully placed candles and t-lights can help create an intimate dining setting. Make the most of your outdoor space by using floor standing lanterns to light surrounding pathways and grounds.

“Remember to make sure your photographer is fully aware of the lighting set up to ensure you get the best results in your wedding shots.”

Fire up:

“Embrace the cold air and take up the opportunity to make use of a glowing, crackling log-burning fire. There’s nothing like the ambiance of a natural flame to create a beautiful romantic setting.

“Outdoor fire pits can transform a cold, dark outdoor space into an inviting, cosy area for your guests to gather around. Toast marshmallows and s’mores or even light sparklers.”

Winter warmers:

“Pull in the wonders of winter with your decor too. The season offers one of the most stunning colour palettes, an alternative to lighter and paler colours normally associated with summer weddings.

“Go bold with berry, burgundy, plum and gold, or more autumnal tones with woodland inspired rich reds, sunset orange and forest green for centerpieces. Spray pine cones, holly berries or gardenias with shimmer sprays to add a tasteful touch of glamour.”

Retro furs:

“A faux fur shawl could be considered a wedding accessory of the past, but this retro look is making a comeback. It’s an elegant addition to a plain bridal dress that will keep you warm too!”

“Faux fur is also a beautiful statement interior piece for a winter wedding. Add a throw to any communal seating to add an en trende ‘Scandi’ look and feel.”

Winter tipple

“What better way to greet your guests to a winter wedding reception with a warming cocktail?

“Think hot apple, cinnamon and clove spices and sweet bourbons. You could even work with cocktail connoisseurs to devise your own signature ‘bride and groom’ cocktail!”
