The third season of Broadchurch draws to a close tonight (April 17), and with it so does the entire series. Creator Chris Chibnall has stated for some time now that the show would only ever be a trilogy, and now he's reiterated that after being questioned whether or not there could be life for the crime mystery drama down the road.

Speaking on BBC Radio 4's Today programme, Chibnall said that while filming the final episodes was "quite emotional" for the cast and crew, there's still "absolutely" no chance it will ever return to the small screen four a fourth outing.

"That is it and there will be no more after this one, absolutely. It's been an extraordinary journey with the show and [its success] has taken us all by surprise," he explained.

Fans of the show will finally learn the identity of Trish Winterman's (Julie Hesmondhalgh) attacker(s) in tonight's final episode, after weeks of theories flying around social media and beyond.

As the series has progressed, it's emerged that Trish hasn't been the only victim of rape in the small village and its outskirts, with two other women coming forward and giving their stories to Alec Hardy (David Tennant) and Ellie Miller (Olivia Colman).

Whether or not the cases are connected is still yet to be proved, but it's likely that whoever raped Trish is also involved in the crimes that took place prior.

All will be revealed tonight at 9pm when Broadchurch reaches its conclusion on ITV.
