Relationships on Female First

Whether you are loved up but hate clichéd romance or single after a recent break up and looking to get away, Zagreb in Croatia has everything you could want for an ‘anti-Valentines’ weekend away.

The Museum of Broken Relationships, the brainchild of a former couple, was formed on the basis of a simple question; ‘What do you do with all the tokens of love that you collected during your relationships?’ Originally a temporary exhibit opening in 2006, the museum was so popular that it has now set up permanent home in the Croatian capital.

With items donated from members of the public including discarded roses, an axe used to destroy a former lover’s furniture and a toaster stolen out of spite, the museum certainly makes a change from the clichéd Valentine’s deals on offer.

Image of axe – The “ex axe” was submitted to the museum after a relationship ended and to get over an ex someone chopped up a piece of furniture every day to release their frustrations – “the axe was promoted to a therapy instrument”.

Handcuffs – The only thing left behind when the ex left were these fluffy handcuffs….

Row of exhibits– just some of the items on show at the Museum of Broken Relationships. If you go, be sure to read the captions for the amazing/ heart-breaking / hilarious stories behind the forgotten objects.

Pants – All that remained were his teeny travelling pants, the relic of a holiday romance.

Love heart bear – When one relationship ended through tragic circumstances, what remained was a reminder of how strong and true their love had been for a while.

Photo album – Sometimes all that remains after a relationship ends are the photos that can be passed down the generations.
