As summer approaches, single women and those in the early stages of a new relationship face a range of dating challenges. All of a sudden, the invitations start rolling in, from wedding invites to work events, all with the option of bringing a plus one. And then there’s deciding what to wear on dates in the warmer weather. This season can get complicated!

You should be enjoying the summer, so here are some tips for making your dating experience less stressful and more memorable.

Weddings

You know what it’s like; you hit a certain age and the hen dos and weddings come thick and fast. If you’re single or in the early stages of a relationship, you could be faced with double jeopardy: either being put on the dreaded ‘match-making’ singles table or bringing a ‘plus one’ to present to your friends.

A wedding is an intimate affair. So, it’s best not to invite a brand-new date to a wedding. Wait until you have been out with someone a few times and you’re sure you really like your date before inviting them. The first or second date is definitely too soon to invite someone to a wedding. Even if everything is going well, you don’t want to overwhelm your date by extending an invitation to such an intimate occasion with all your nearest and dearest.

If you attend the big day alone, don’t be a wallflower. If you’re shy, ask someone to introduce you to others and remember to mingle. Weddings are the perfect place to introduce yourself to new and interesting people; this could lead to a dance and even the exchange of phone numbers.

The key is to enjoy yourself. It’s a celebration, after all!

Family and Work Events

When you feel the time is right, introduce your date to your friends, family and colleagues. The summer is the perfect time for introductions, with garden parties, summer office events and family barbeques aplenty.

If you’re bringing a date to an event, help them to feel comfortable. Don’t go off and leave your date alone for a long period of time, even if you think they are super social.

Don’t forget: make sure you don’t leave your date alone with your nosy aunt or the office gossip! You never know what impression of you they might leave on your date.

Your date also needs to be a good reflection on you – especially at a work event. Make sure you give them all the necessary details prior to the occasion, particularly the tone and the dress code, so they arrive in appropriate attire and know to be on their best behaviour.

Summer Dates

Summer is a great time to have fun and spend time outside, especially with al fresco dates. Activities such as picnics, open-air cinema, hiking, road trips, sporting events and ice cream excursions can make fun summer dates.

Although it may be tempting to flash the flesh when the weather is warm, it’s important to dress appropriately for your date activity. Show off your personal style, while making a good impression.

If your new relationship appears to be going well, you might want to broach the subject of a weekend getaway. In the early days, the best breaks are day trips – quick jaunts within a three-hour drive – or overnight stays at a fun destination that you will both enjoy. Historic sites, beaches, theme parks, mountain walks are all great places to go so you can share your interests with your date and spend time getting to know each other, all while enjoying the summer season.

Summer is a great time to meet new people, discover new places, and create memories. So, get out there and make the most of it; just remember to follow these summer dating tips and you’re sure to have a good time.
