It appears cupid has developed a taste for coffee as the UK's largest married dating site IllicitEncounters.com reports 64% of it's members would rather treat their dates to coffee than caviar.

The site is the country's largest meeting place for like-minded married and attached people, does this mean that wives should beware of the not-so-innocent coffee date?

Experts have proven that behind the froth there are some hidden effects. Your daily caffeine fix stimulates a part of the brain that can make you aroused and boost your sex drive.

One member of the site, Sophia, happily suggests a coffee date speeds up the dating process. She said: 'It's all about chemistry between two people, I don't think it matters where you meet. After spending some time getting to know your date online when you do meet you know pretty quickly if it's going to progress, and if it is who wants the inconvenience of having to get through dinner to get to dessert.'

The study of the sites 800,000 members in 2013 showed a clear rise in members ditching the traditional first date restaurant treat. Mike Taylor from the site suggests this isn't down to laziness or bank balances but about feeling comfortable.

He said: 'I think our members have become more relaxed about going on dates over the last few years. The playing field has levelled out and it is no longer about trying to overly impress a date with fine dining and expensive wine.'

The study located the favourite places for these members, labelled 'Coastanovas', to take their dates. Top of the list is Costa Coffee, followed by Cafe Nero and independent coffee shops.
