As the clocks go forward today- we thought we would reflect on how disruptive this is for couples and focus on all the weird and wonderful things they do to cope- or not as the case may be.

You initially forget about it- Until you hear it on the radio or someone mentions it at work and the negativity in your home mounts as the day fast approaches.

Get early nights in the lead up to it- Who knows what could happen if your weekly sleep quota is reduced- you might break up or something. At the very least you will be arses to each other.

Wake up early- There’s no way you can sleep in- the sun, the birds and your neighbours (who are all incidentally morning people) are conspiring against you.  Even if your partner’s a heavy sleeper- you make sure they’re awake with you to hear the disrespect for night owls.

Wake up in a REALLY bad mood- Like there’s been a thief in the night who’s taken something from you that you never appreciated… until now.

Moan all day- About how cheated you both feel to be robbed of a mere hour of sleep. That you’d rather live like vampires if it means you get a full night’s sleep all year round.

Discuss the endless possibilities- Of what you could have done with that hour- have sex, sleep, watch TV and a whole host of other things you would never dream of doing but you both like to make your point known.

Witter on about how tired you feel- It’s only an hour- you lose that though a bad night’s sleep or late sex sessions all time but when neither of you CHOOSE to lose the hour you feel entitled to fuss about your fatigue.

Make the whole thing worse- By focusing on the fact that the hour has been taken off you on the weekend AND on a Sunday- as if Sundays weren’t bad enough. And you don’t get enough time off work as it is- it’s like a double whammy and you suspect your bosses have something to do with it.

Wish away your lives until October- When you can reclaim your hour back and stick two fingers up at Spring, extra light and optimists.

Keep all the curtains closed- Because your eyes and skin can’t adjust to ALL THE LIGHT.
