The British Love To Kiss

The British Love To Kiss

To celebrate International Kissing Day, Zoosk have surveyed the globe in order to find out who’s kissing who, when they’re doing it and what kinds of kisses they prefer!

Andrea Demirjian, author of Kissing—Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About One of Life’s Sweetest Pleasures, gave us some facts about the history of the kiss.

Apparently, the kiss dates back to the Stone Age when the man was looking for a mate who proved to be strong and fertile.  The cave man would choose his mate by tasting her saliva, which was supposed to be indicative of her health!

Now days’, kissing is second nature, as 63.3 per cent of Brits admitted that they would be happy to kiss someone they just met, making us the nation most likely to kiss someone on a first date.

Out of the 13,000 respondents from all over the world, the French were the least likely to kiss on a first date, with only 32 per cent of them saying it would be something they would be happy with.

The British clearly have no problem with PDAs as only 6 per cent of us object to kissing in full view of others, and 55.2 per cent saying that they have no problem with any type of public kissing.

Although kissing may be acceptable in Britain, Andrea tells us that in Malaysia, India and Pakistan, kissing in public is not permitted. It is censored on all TV shows, and couples can be fined $75 if caught!

Despite being eager to kiss on the first date, this seems to wear off throughout a relationship, with 79.5 per cent of people waiting for their partner to make the first move.

British women favour the French kiss with 48.7 of them saying it was their favourite, whilst British men prefer a soft and sensual kiss.

Although men may come across as innocent when it comes to kissing, Andrea tells us that men in Ancient Rome used to kiss their wives after returning from battle to check if they had been drinking wine.

The French kiss is actually France’s least favourite kiss, with only 21 per cent of them opting for it.

The most popular celebrity kiss was that of William and Kate at their wedding in 2011. Sixty three per cent of Brits surveyed said that their kiss on the balcony of Buckingham Palace was the most memorable of the decade.

The best reality TV kiss was voted to be David Walliams kissing Simon Cowell’s hand, with 51 per cent of the vote.

The most forgettable reality TV kiss was that of Spencer and Caggie from Made in Chelsea with 8 per cent of the vote.

Wherever you are on International Kissing Day, it’s important to keep your breath smelling fresh, as 60 per cent of Brits said that having bad breath was the biggest turn off!

So bring out the breath mints, make sure your lips are in kissable condition and get out there and find some lips to lock with!
