Shockingly, nearly a quarter of those people who are still in touch with their ex keep it a secret from their partner as they hope to reignite the passion with their former lover permanently.

Shockingly, 100 per cent of those said the reason they are keeping it secret is because they hope to rekindle their love with their former partner.

Men are the guiltiest for keeping their contact with a former lover a secret, with one in six doing so, compared to only 12 per cent of women.

The men said that the reason they don’t tell their partner is because they know that their partner would be jealous.

Men and women also have completely different ways of keeping in contact with their ex’s. Seventy four per cent of women keep in contact via social networking sites, whereas men like to keep it more private with 33 per cent choosing email and 31 per cent choosing texts.

The Scots are the most likely to want a reunion as 24 per cent of them said they want to be reunited with their first love and 10 per cent admitting they have attended a school reunion to get back together with an old flame.

Despite this, those in the Midlands and the North are actually the ones who are most likely to still be in touch with an ex.
