The Bull City Burger and Brewery in Durham, North Carolina, has decided to mix things up a bit by offering experimental food fanatics the chance to try a lightly salted and oven baked tarantula as an extra topping on their beef burgers.

When curious people on Twitter wondered what the scary spider tasted like, the restaurant responded: ''People say it tastes most like crab, or other shellfish, sometimes with a bit of a metallic-y taste. BUT, the legs, the body...each bite tastes a bit different.''

The giant spiders can reach a leg span of up to 13cm in the wild and are native to Costa Rica and other parts of Central America.

In order to try the unique burger, guests must pay $30 to enter a 'tarantula raffle', and are rewarded for their bravery with a T-shirt to commemorate the challenge.

Currently, only eight people have braved the burger.

Other interesting dishes on the Bull City Burger restaurant include duck fat fries and rye pretzels with beer sauce as well as Iguana and Aligator burgers.
